Liminal Hybridity
Bryan Mew and Clarine Wilmar collaborate to explore the phenomenology of dreams and the awareness of dimensions beyond the physical plane. The interconnection of incongruous worlds is portrayed through the existence of the physical body in a metaphysical realm, coexisting alongside uncanny anthropomorphic beings derived from the natural world.
The recurring motif of limbs in Mew’s works are derived from the actualisation of his body transcending physical boundaries in his dreams. These anatomical fragments live in a liminal non-space, with no particular time or place. This is marked by ambiguous diffused backgrounds of colour and texture, juxtaposed with projections of shadows and light from unknown sources. His compositional decisions involve co-mingling digital and analogue techniques to produce outcomes relevant to an emergent digital age.
